The subject was the role of manager in a Scrum.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>provide strategic vision, business strategy, and resources,<\/li>\n<li>remove impediments surfaced by Scrum teams that the teams cannot remove themselves, <\/li>\n<li>ensure growth and career path of employees, and <\/li>\n<li>challenge teams to move beyond mediocrity<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For me, introducing agile practices has been evolutionary not revolutionary &#8211; five years work, three title changes and counting. My role is to make sure the team&#8217;s accomplishments build towards something progressively more and more valuable for the company and the individual team members.<\/p>\n<p>In my experience, this involves facilitating a conversation between the business and the team on at least three levels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Product owner and product team, <\/li>\n<li>Organization and employees, and <\/li>\n<li>Leadership&#8217;s grand vision and the team&#8217;s accomplishments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"padding:0 0 20px 0\">\n<div style=\"padding:0;margin:0;border: thin solid #999;width:400px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/judykat.com\/ken-judy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/02\/group_photo_400px.jpg\" alt='The Oxygen team and management' style=\"border:0;padding:0;margin:0;\"\/><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size:10px;color:#999;margin:5px;padding:0;\">[the oxygen team and management]<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;ll go into this in more detail in later posts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jeff Sutherland posted notes from an open space hosted by Jens Ostergaard on Nov 2006.
